How do I register a domain name?

You can register a domain name through any registrar such as NetRegistry, GoDaddy or even Google. You’ll need to pay a registration fee (usually annually but sometimes every 2 years) to secure your domain registration. This gives you the right to the domain name for that period.

Check the availability of your domain name

You’ll need to check to see if your chosen domain is available for registration. You can use the WHOIS service to check availability, or simply type in your chosen domain name into a registrar’s Search field to check. If your chosen domain is already taken you may need to consider alternatives eg. acronyms, or variations of your business name.

For Australian businesses and companies – most Aussie businesses use this domain extension.

For commercial entities – commonly used by IT companies.
